Privacy Policy

Last updated Sep 28, 2026

Placeholder content: fill in src/config/legal.ts (operatorName, contactEmail, jurisdiction) before this page goes live.

This policy describes what bestdomain.dev actually does today. It will change as the site gains features (like email alerts), and we'll update the date above whenever it does.

What happens when you search a domain

The name you type is sent to the domain registry (to check whether it's registered) and, if you search a specific name, to the registrars we have an official price-lookup API for — currently Porkbun and Spaceship — so we can show their live price for that exact name. We cache those answers briefly on our server (a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the answer) to avoid repeating the same lookup, and then let the cache expire. We don't keep a history of what anyone has searched.

What we don't currently do

  • No accounts, no sign-up, no passwords
  • No cookies and no analytics or advertising scripts (see our cookie policy)
  • No email collection — the “notify me” feature described in our plans isn't built yet. When it launches, this policy will say exactly what's stored and how to unsubscribe, before it goes live
  • We don't sell any data, because we don't collect any to sell

Standard server logs

Like any website, our hosting provider keeps basic request logs (IP address, timestamp, the page requested) for a limited time, for security and debugging. We don't link these to any other data about you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over the limited data described above — for example, to ask what we hold or to have it deleted. Contact us at TODO: a real, monitored email address and we'll respond.

Children

This site isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters — most importantly, before we launch any feature that collects personal data — we'll update this page and its date first.
